Job Responsibilities:

• Establishing and growing an earthworm farm that will contribute to soil health on the campus;
• Planning, planting and maintenance of the gardens, including new trees, flowers and plants as per agreed guidelines;
• Building and maintaining pathways and public areas as per required layouts;
• Nurturing fruit trees to encourage maximum production, including correct feeding and pruning techniques;
• Maintaining gardens and lawns, including the planting of specified plants, following an organic fertiliser programme, weeding, soil conditioning, mulching and applying selected organic pesticides;
• Assisting with preparation and maintenance of sports fields.
• Guiding and assisting learners to grow and produce edible plants, fruit and vegetables;
• Managing and caring for animals on campus and ensuring their health and safety;
• Successfully building, managing and sourcing organic materials for the compost heaps;
• Safe and correct operation and maintenance of garden and landscaping equipment;
• Cutting back plants as per needs of the garden as well as pruning of trees for safety;
• Installing and maintaining sprinkler and water-efficient irrigation systems;

Job Requirements:

• Ability to work in a team as well as independently
• Flexibility to assist the team with day-to-day operations of the school
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly in an ever-changing environment
• Understanding of organic gardening techniques (biodynamic knowledge and experience will be advantageous)
• Physical fitness and a hands-on approach are essential aspects of the role
• At least 2 years of proven experience in similar role

Qualification & Experience:

• Police clearance required, as well as clearance on sexual offenders’ register and child protection register
