Job Description:

A vacancy exists for a pollinator and invertebrate knowledge collation scientist in the Scientific Services division of South African National Parks (SANParks). The successful candidate will locate, review and synthesise existing literature (peer-reviewed and grey) and ongoing research (by SANParks and external researchers) across all parks to produce ‘State of Knowledge’ reports for (i) pollinators, and (ii) invertebrates

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify, review and analyse (if needed) SANParks’ datasets.
  • Planning report content through end-user consultation.
  • Identify, review and analyse (if needed) data from registered external researchers and open access repositories.
  • Identify, collate and review knowledge relevant to pollinators and invertebrates in SANParks.
  • Draft, consult and finalise reports.
  • Prepare and present summaries for decision-makers.

Job Requirements:

  • Data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Proven experience of successfully leading the writing of scientific reviews and reports.
  • Good networking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Three years of post-graduate working experience in an ecological field and/or bioinformatics-related field.
  • A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to national parks across the country.
  • Wide-ranging knowledge and experience working with pollinators and other invertebrates.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of scientific writing, including first author peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, scientific assessments and reports.
  • At least an MSc in Natural Science
