Job Description:

Hedge funds aim to deliver absolute returns regardless of what happens in the market. We use derivatives and apply investment strategies such has leveraging and short selling to achieve returns and unlock diversification opportunities. Property helps property owners maximise returns on their real estate through value-added programmes and superior management expertise.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Income and expenditure benchmarking and budgeting approval
  • Management of service providers to Sanlam Properties such as the manager appointed to deliver property management services to the property fund
  • Critically evaluate due diligence processes for the business in terms of risk management
  • Establish and maintain relationships with role players in the property industry i.e. developers, brokers and property owners.
  • Property life-cycle modelling and monitoring
  • Participate in a team culture within SA Direct Properties and contribute to maintaining and enhancing the SA Direct Properties within the
  • Alternatives and Sanlam Investments context
  • Valuation services related to direct property exposure
  • Collaborate with other businesses within Alternative Investments and Sanlam Investments
  • Planning and execution of capital expenditure management on individual properties
  • Provide input into the strategic planning and management of the total property portfolio by providing input into the short- and medium-term objectives to achieve the ideal portfolio composition and size

Job Requirements:

  • Formulates, revises and implements the investment plans
  • Industry trends and market changes
  • Investment strategies and management of complex investments
  • Recommendations and presentation of results
  • Investment monitoring and compliance

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience in Impact Investing / Sustainability aspects of Real Estate Investments
  • 5-10 years’ related experience
  • Experience in the management of Alternative Assets / portfolios such as Residential (Affordable / Social housing investment and / or developments), Student Accommodation, Education (Campus developments) and development of Healthcare – facilities would be a distinct advantage
  • CA (SA), CFA, MBA would be advantageous
  • Demonstrated excellence in the field of direct property and portfolio management
  • Degree or Diploma with 6 to 8 years related experience.
