Job Description:

The purpose of the professional nurse role is to coordinate the TB programme activities within the hospitals, as well as down-referrals to primary health care services. This position will also be required to strengthen the management and notification of TB-positive diagnoses in the hospitals, as well as to ensure effective down-referral of TB-positive patients for continuity of care

Job Responsibilities:

  • Promote the provision of treatment for latent TB infection (LTBI) in eligible patients
  • Map their feeder clinics and create and maintain a data base
  • Coordinate the ‘Finding cases actively’, ‘Separating safely and treating’ effectively (FAST) strategy and QI activities in the hospitals
  • Work closely with information officers in the hospitals
  • Compile quarterly reports for programme director and district TB/HAST manager
  • Coordinate the down-referral of patients diagnosed with TB in the hospitals and follow up
  • Collate the data in the TB identification register for the hospital for reporting
  • Support in-hospital TB and HIV care, as well as infection prevention and control activities
  • Supervise and monitor capturing of TB data in the information system
  • Participate in district quarterly TB and data review meetings
  • Register patients who are diagnosed with TB in the hospitals
  • Coordinate TB activities in the hospitals, in close collaboration with hospital management
  • Improve quality standards for recording, reporting of TB data in hospitals

Qualification & Experience:

  • Sound leadership and people management skills
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in public health care sector coupled with clinical management of TB and HIV
  • Sound knowledge on TB/HIV data tools and systems
  • Diploma in Nursing, or Bachelor’s degree (B. Cur)
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Qualification in community health nursing or primary health care will be an advantage
