Job Description:

The Registered Nurse and Midwife will render and promote cost effective, safe quality patient care in accordance
with hospital standards and policies. The incumbent will further be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a maternity patient or a group of patients, for assessing, planning, executing and supervising the implementation of care to meet patient needs, is a role model in the delivery of evidence based care and will actively participate in Clinical Governance.

Job Responsibilities:

•  Audit health records to ensure compliance
•  Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed, charged and credited appropriately
•  Keep abreast of current research in the discipline
•  Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities
•  Attend handover of report at shift commencement
•  Practice the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions
•  Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors
•  Execute all procedures according to hospital standards
•  Provide and supervise the delivery of evidence based nursing care
•  Communicate with Health Care Practitioners regarding any change in health status
•  Participate in ward/units quality improvement programme
•  Effective risk prevention and management
•  Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards

Job Requirements:

• Relevant experience in Maternity necessary.
•  Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies Band appropriate health legislation

•  Private Hospital experience advantageous
•  Previous multi-disciplinary experience essential.
•  Technical knowledge and skill

Qualification & Experience:

• A relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in General Nursing/ B Cur Degree)
•  Midwifery qualification essential
•  Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
•  Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
