Job Description:

The General Manager should have an intimate knowledge in the following areas: operational excellence practices, applicable regulations, health and safety regulations and compliance, fleet management, administration practices, management control, transportation principles and methods, change management principles and methods, personnel and human resources, labour relations and customer service.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops strategic plan by studying technological and financial opportunities
  • Increases the Business Unit management’s effectiveness by co-ordination, orienting, training, coaching, counselling, and disciplining the management team
  • Assigning accountabilities
  • Presenting assumptions
  • Developing a climate for offering information and opinions
  • Providing educational opportunities
  • Planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Communicating values, strategies, and objectives
  • Liaison and coordination with the operations management team to ensure service delivery requirements are achieved from the planning, execution, quality control, house-keeping of all operational aspects within the region
  • Developing incentives

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and build and maintain strong relationships within the company.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to plan, implement and facilitates facility health and safety, as well as security aspects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to consistently meet deadlines on a 24 / 7 basis.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook Express, and the Transnet Port Container Tracking System (NAVIS).
