Job Description:

Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an opportunity available for Junior Data Scientist at our Head Office in Midrand. Support the design and delivery of data analytics / engineering & data science solutions to support the distribution operations in delivering key business objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Undertake the processing of structured and unstructured data.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Data Scientist to build data pipelines using workflow orchestration tools.
  • Schedule extracts and collaborate with Senior Scientist to draw data from APIs for analysis.
  • Highlight potential value in data science and articulate recommendations to best deliver business goals.
  • Assist in the implementation of configurable analytical models within the department.
  • Use statistical software to analyse, identify and assess data attributes in order to develop recommendations.
  • Implement and train ML and AI models to perform predictions.
  • Provide assistance in the development of processes and tools to monitor and analyse model performance and data accuracy.
  • Support business functions through feasibility analysis and modelling, root cause analysis, decision support modelling, supply chain design modelling and analysis.
  • Assist in designing and building technical frameworks to extract, transform, load data from various sources utilising applications such as SQL.
  • Provide support to Senior Data Scientist to ensure the most optimised technical process is implemented across the business.
  • Consolidate and analyse a variety of data in various formats from supply chain systems, 3rd party providers etc.

Job Requirements:

  • Understand priorities of the business to apply theoretical knowledge into practice. Develop the ability to evaluate the return on investment for opportunities.
  • Formally delivers information to groups. Conveys ideas and facts in writing using language the reader will best understand.
  • Approach problems in a rational, intellectual manner. Will base decisions on a logical analysis of available evidence.
  • Knowledge with Python and or R, Statistical models, SQL and Data visualisation

Qualification & Experience:

  • Degree in Data Science or related
  • Experience in business process and system design
  • 3 – 4 years’ experience in Supply Chain or as a Data Engineer/Analyst
  • Grade 12 / Matric
