CSIR Vacancies 2023 – Energy Efficiency and Demand Response Engineer

Job Description:

The CSIR has an internship opportunity for an Energy Efficiency and Demand Response research in the Energy Supply and Demand Research Group. The main objective of the position is to support the formulation and implementation of Energy Efficiency and Demand research projects such as the determination of the energy intensity of different economic sectors, development and testing of Energy Efficiency and Demand Shaping solutions and assessment of energy demand along all end-use sectors. Assess and understand regulatory, technical, and market issues relevant to the adoption and implementation of Energy Efficiency and Demand Shaping solutions.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist with the compilation of technical proposals and reports;
• Under the leadership of the Principal and Senior Researchers, contribute to research activities in the group, which include: breaking down problem statements and proposing research designs
• Liaise with clients, engage with stakeholders, and consult role-players where necessary.
• Assist with project administration and organisation; and

Job Requirements:

• Technical knowledge of Energy Efficiency and Demand shaping technologies
• Data analytics skills and/or experience would be advantageous
• Deployment/hosting skills and/or experience would be advantageous
• Good project administration and organisation skills
• Ability to analyse technical issues and convey conclusions to diverse technical and non-technical audiences
• Demonstrated knowledge of building controls, motors, lighting, hot water heating and HVAC systems
• Sound knowledge of the South African energy efficient landscape (role players, regulations and incentives)
• Proficiency in MS Office Applications
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Good interpersonal and organisational skills

Qualification & Experience:

• A masters degree in these fields will be an advantage.
• An interest in energy policies and technologies.
• No experience is required other than having a keen interest and skills in understanding principles of energy use, energy efficiency technologies and practices.
• An Honours degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering or any other related engineering qualification.
