Job Description:

To lead and support operational readiness, execution and P101 performance of underground mining projects, new mining technology implementation and existing underground mining operations. Build a foundation of standards, systems, capability and understanding of the imperatives for safe and efficient best practice mechanised mining performance, creating organisation readiness (in conjunction with AATS Mining) to ensure we can successfully deliver and sustain on our commitments to new ways of mining

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support implementation of best practice standards (AATS BPPs) and new systems and technologies to Platinum underground mines and projects.
  • Custodian and sponsor of mining related standards, procedures, and policies to enable and support effective business transformation to best practice mechanised mining systems, capturing full benefits of available equipment, systems and new technologies (removing historical constraints).
  • Apply mechanised underground mining operational and mining systems knowledge to support timely delivery of mining projects and identification and implementation of initiatives and systems to enable P101 performance
  • Support the strategy, projects and initiatives to transformation of underground mining in South Africa (and abroad) toward modern, safe and efficient best practice underground mechanised mining systems. Engagement with external stakeholders, internal Senior Management, key business partners.
  • Provide operational and technical mining experience and support to Underground Mining Operations (and technical) to ensure Business Plans (and Budgets) are operable, achievable and can deliver on commitments with supporting technical fundamentals and plans aligned to operational plans.
  • Oversee consistent application of Safety & Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities
  • Ability to instinctively (from experience and results) identify operational constraints and bottlenecks, key enablers and improvement initiatives to unlock latent capacity and reduce performance risks in operations – unlocking P101 performance.

  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Advanced level of practical application of mining systems and process to inform effective Operating Model configuration (workflows, configurations, routines).
  • Advanced financial acumen, understanding of first principle cost estimation and budgeting for mines and projects.
  • Instinctive understanding of mining systems (founded on extensive operational and technical experience) and process flow to inform and integrate with the Operating Model and effective Work Management.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Demonstrated success in role as Section/Mine Manager or Project Delivery.
  • > 10 years underground mining experience (with relevant mass mine – mechanised development mining experience).
  • Mine Managers certificate and experience in Statutory roles
  • BSc Min Eng, B Tech, HND Mining
