Job Description:

Applications are invited for the above position. The applicant must have a PhD. The School of Animal, Plant and Environmental Sciences is a leader in several disciplines locally and globally, and one of the top Schools in the Faculty of Science in terms of research output and postgraduate throughput. We have world class facilities for conducting research, including a greenhouse complex, a controlled plant growth facility, appropriate instruments and field sites.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Organise practical sessions and fieldtrips where applicable
  • Develop their own research programme with appropriate training and supervision of postgraduate students
  • Collaborate with other academics in the School to develop interdisciplinary programs linking plant ecophysiology to research on global change and functional ecology
  • To teach in areas of plant ecophysiology at 2nd, 3rd year and post-graduate levels, and general physiology at 1st year level, including training in technical skills and use of equipment
  • Be proficient at statistics and in R
  • Engage in continuous development of teaching, research, leadership and administrative capacity
  • Raise funds to support research and postgraduates
  • To teach on field trips
  • To have good national and international networks and collaborators
  • Contribute to the running of the School

Qualification & Experience:

  • PhD in Botany, Ecophysiology or related field
  • An excellent research track record of publications and postgraduate student supervision
  • Ability to attract independent research grant funding
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate courses face to face and online
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English
  • Valid driver’s licence (at least code B)
  • Experience in linking plant ecophysiology to research on global change and functional ecology
  • Expertise in technical and theoretical aspects of plant ecophysiology, especially plant water relations
