Job Description:
Donor funding has created the possibility of appointing a Programme Administrator [Grant Development] on a T1 full-time two-year fixed term PASS contract, renewable subject to the availability of funding. This is a key role within HUMA. The post-holder will work closely with the HUMA Director to establish the Institute’s Research and Grants Development Hub that will provide the strategic and operational support for research development and income generation in HUMA, and the Faculty of Humanities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assesses the capability to successfully compete for external funding; identifies expertise and essential support systems within the department/school/division to successfully carry out funded projects.
- Provides technical assistance in developing grant and contract proposals compatible with department/school/division interests; interprets application guidelines, including financial requirements, and advises regarding compliance with University, national and other agency regulations as they pertain to allowable costs.
- Leverage stakeholder network to obtain intelligence, maintain awareness and position HUMA and Faculty research for grants.
- Actively pursue and build robust relationships with existing clients, potential funders and partner organizations.
- Research, review, write and edit Institute proposals and reports for funding from potential donors.
- Assist in the development of goals and strategies for fundraising campaigns to cultivate and retain current and potential new donors.
- Explores, researches and identifies appropriate funding sources consistent with HUMA’s mission and goals.
Job Requirements:
- Successful record of acquisition of external funding
- Proficiency in English, excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
- Minimum two years of recent and progressive experience providing related administrative and program support in a research environment, preferably in a university or other large research organization
- Ability to meet deadlines, pay careful attention to details.
- Expert knowledge and fluency of funding regulations, processes, submission platforms and timelines.
- Relevant tertiary qualification [NFQ 7including, preferably in the humanities and social sciences or equivalent experience in the fundraising sector.
- Knowledge and/or experience in program and clientele served, external funding sources and regulations as well as knowledge of needs assessment, curriculum development and evaluation methodology.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty and staff and be flexible in approach.
- Project management skills, including managing international collaborations and complex multi-sub award contracts.
Qualification & Experience:
- 2 or more years of work experience in humanities/research development /international funding sector.
- Strong networks and experience working in other parts of Africa and globally • Good knowledge of research centres, networks, and universities in Africa.
- Success in writing and securing large research funding proposals.
- Knowledge of the South African higher education system, African and international research context.
- Experience of inter/trans/multi-disciplinary research.
