Job Responsibilities:
- Compiling environmental legislative reports and providing recommendations on proposed activities,
whether they require new environmental authorisation or amendment of, an existing
permit or license - Attending key meetings and providing the operation with the best environmental practices
Comprehensive reporting of environmental performance data for input into the Quarterly ESG Board report
and the Annual Report - Compiling monthly environmental reports
- Conducting site visits, audits and inspections across all shafts and surface infrastructure of operations
- Attending key meetings with management of various departments to address and pick up on environmental
issues - Managing of external environmental complaints which may pose a risk to the reputation of the organisation
- Developing procedures and aspect registers to be site specific
- Managing environmental monitoring data (water quality, air quality, waste data) and resolving deviations
- Monitoring environmental performance (water quality, dust, waste) trends over time and providing input into
remedial actions where required - Developing, tracking and maintaining improvement initiatives and plans
- Reviewing internal and external audit reports and external third-party studies or deliverables to ensure
outcomes and findings are not onerous to the organisation - Supporting and enforcing monthly environmental awareness toolbox topics
- Communicating environmental objectives and targets at supervisor level and above
- Providing input into the development of systems and technology for use in the EMS
- Developing and implementing a certified ISO 14001:2015 system and the ICMI (Cyanide Code) in their
area of responsibility
Qualification & Experience:
- Have NQF 7 (Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma) in Natural Science or Environmental Management
- Have at least 3 years’ experience in an operational mining environmental management environment
- Computer skills (MS Office, Geographic Information Systems Syncromine, PIVOT and Qlickview)
- Competent in data analysis and interpretation of all environmental monitoring data, with trending thereof to
ensure pro-active management of potential impacts - Science-based skills to make recommendations on environmental management to management through
compilation of technical scientific reports (incidents, non-conformances, month-end reports and LEAP
reports) - Project management skills to directly support projects determined by the Environmental Specialist/ Unit
- Manager/ Manager and execute on their delivery
- General environmental and ISO14001 auditing skills
- Understanding the relevant current Mine Health, Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
