Job Description:

The purpose of the Senior SAP Basis Engineer is to provide technical expertise and support for SAP Basis operations by efficiently executing installations, performance optimisation, diagnosing problems, repairs, upgrades, and maintenance of SAP systems and software such as operating systems, data management products, office automation products, embedded systems, and other utility enabling software and related equipment. This role leverages deep specialised SAP Basis knowledge combined with exposure to Database Administration and UX (including Fiori) to contribute to the successful delivery of both tactical and strategic SAP design, implementation, and technical support-related activities. This role provides guidance and mentorship for emerging SAP Basis Engineers to ensure a high-quality SAP environment is maintained, whilst contributing to the optimisation of the technical performance of a core SAP team and works closely with cross-functional Developers, Analysts, Consultants, and other business stakeholders in a matrix structured project team.

Job Responsibilities:

• Analyse, design, evaluate, modify, test, and implement SAP across functional areas.
• Accountable for efficiently executing installations, performance optimisation, problem diagnosis, repairs, conducting tests, upgrades, and maintenance of SAP systems and software.
• Timeously respond to and manage user and system performance issues and develop proactive/preventative solutions.
• Contribute to the delivery of specialised SAP Basis knowledge across the Shoprite systems landscape, supporting strategy and applying
• Identify and implement the suitable solution(s) and alternatives that address the business needs/requirements and exceed customer expectations.
• Create conceptual, logical, and physical solutions, using appropriate gatekeeping techniques and methodologies.

• Perform Standby to ensure consistent service response time and delivery
• Perform System Copy Backs.  Plan and execute SAP system builds including High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
• Provide technical support to ensure consistent availability of the SAP System, manage incidents, investigate, and implement effective downtime solutions.
• Effectively administer ABAP and Java, including Fiori components as and when required.

Job Requirements:

• Exposure to and an understanding of Corporate, Retail, or Customer interfacing environments in a similar role (non-sector-specific).
• Exposure to agile projects with a particular emphasis on collaboration of multiple, cross-functional teams with specific deliverable streams, including Project / Service delivery Lifecycle Management tools & methodologies experience.
• Exposure to SAP Hana, DBA Administration: HANA/DB2 Performance tuning and Sybase, S/4 implementation, and UX design.

Qualification & Experience:

• Degree in Information Systems / B.Sc Computer Science / B.Eng (or similar)
• Matric with extensive, relevant, and demonstrable job-related experience in SAP Basis, ERP, BW, and applicable business implementation including a full round of SAP implementation and upgrade cycle on Netweaver and databases
• +4 years experience inSAP Basis, ERP, BW, and applicable business implementation including a full round of SAP implementation and upgrade cycle on Netweaver and databases.
