Job Description:

Provide Technical support to operating plants as a member of a process engineering team.  The process technologist contributes to achievement of production objectives, participates in implementation of improvements to at least one technology through the independent formulation of a technical approach, data assimilation, assessment, interpretation and contextualisation for a portfolio of small projects.

Job Responsibilities:

• Work independently, know when to seek assistance.
• Investigates defined operational problems and improvement opportunities, proposes plans to management (shift and area manager production, plant process engineering lead) and implements in collaboration with production teams.
• Perform production standby duties if declared competent and experienced to do so.
• Support implementation of small projects as member of a project team by taking responsibility for updating of operations systems, training of artisans, updating of engineering records, commissioning of plant systems.
• Implement plant modifications in accordance with the procedures of the MOC process and ensure full update of plant engineering documentation and proper close-out of modifications under your control.
• Participates and contributes to plant improvement and governance studies, e.g. RCA’s, RBI studies, Incident investigations, etc
• Collects plant data and evidence to supplement DCS and data historian information for problem analysis work.  Escalates problem investigation to senior technical support level if a solution and correction of the problem cannot be achieved within the agreed timeframe.
• Supports the AM Production in implementing improvement initiatives in the production management environment. (eg training of process artisans, adherence to operating controls and procedures, reporting of plant performance)
• Take ownership for personal improvement and skills development; ensure PDP is kept updated and executed.
• Monitors plant units against established criteria, analyse technical trends and reports on observed OWAP deviations and collaborates with shift management to correct.  Ensures alignment across shift teams on correction of deviations and improved operating procedures.
• Investigate incidents (eg. SHE, production, equipment failure/loss in performance, process condition and product quality deviation) using established Sasol RCA processes and as part of a team.  Implement recommendations to operating procedure or plant systems as directed.

Job Requirements:

• Is a step-by-step process of defining a problem, searching for information, and testing a series of solutions until the problem is solved. In involves critical thinking, analysis and persistence.

Qualification & Experience:

• 3+ relevant years
• B Tech/Higher National Diploma in Chemical Engineering
