Job Responsibilities:
- Management and production of livestock and aquaculture within acceptable norms, standards and legislative frameworks (Animal Protection Act, etc.)
- Ensure conducive conditions to enable smooth running of research projects and teaching/learning (WIL – Work integrated learning)
- Perform responsibilities as assigned by the Farm Manager and Director for School of Agricultural Sciences
- Management of on-farm sales of farm produce within Marketing of Agricultural Products Act 47 , 1996, Meat Safety Act 40, 2000, Animal Health Act 7, 2002, etc. and obsolete assets while adhering to all NWU policies in that regard
Job Requirements:
- Understanding of the Basic Conditions of Employment
- Ability to supervise Unit Supervisors, Tractor Drivers and Farm General Workers and manage them as a team to facilitate optimal production within the teaching (WIL) and research environment
- Knowledge of farm planning, financial management, budgeting and evaluation
- Knowledge of agricultural maintenance of farm, farm infrastructure, equipment and machinery
- Human resource (HR) management of support staff
- Understanding the management and production practices of the enterprises to be undertaken
- In-depth subject knowledge/expertise in Livestock production and management
Qualification & Experience:
- 5 years experience in livestock Production, particularly Management of, livestock, pastures is essential
- Registration with the SACNSP is desirable
- 2 years experience in livestock facilities management is desirable
- Being a member of the SASAS is desirable
- B Qualification in Agriculture (Preferably Diploma/Btech) specializing in Animal science/production is essential
