Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise waste segregation, containerization and all processes and ensure compliance monitoring.
- Manage and supervise all employees (including on-site management staff and general orders) that are involved in health care waste management in the institution
- Establish and coordinate all the activities of an institutional waste management committee, including implementation of committee resolution.
- Manage and oversee the weighing of waste, record keeping, internal collection and storage of health care waste.
- Implement waste management principles, policies, legislation and standards.
- Develop and implement an institutional waste management plan, which will include, inter alia, waste avoidance, waste minimization, rescue, recycling and recovery initiatives.
- Train institutional staff on waste management best practices.
- Monitor and evaluate the services of the health care waste management service providers.
- Manage Health Care Waste (including its budget) for the entire catchment of the institution, including EMRS bases and medico-legal mortuaries linked to that institution.
- Identify waste services that need to be outsourced and participated in the development of a specification thereof.
Job Requirements:
- Possess in-depth knowledge on healthcare waste management.
- Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess good analytical, negotiation, listening, planning and organizing.
- Possess technical and practical knowledge on Environmental Health.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of legislative and policy framework informing the area of operation.
- Possess good training skills.
Qualification & Experience:
- Valid code B Driver’s license
- National Diploma in Environmental Health: PLUS.
- Current registration with HPCSA as an Environmental Health Practitioner.
- Senior Certificate /Grade 12.
